Apple Gravy recipe

This appley pork gravy is wonderful for serving with pork or chicken - apple is cooked down with onions until soft and sweet before being simmered with stock. If you have no apples in, use a few tbsp. of apple sauce instead.

  • 2 onions
  • 1 apple
  • 1 tbsp. oil
  • 500ml pork stock
  • Salt and pepper

  1. Finely chop the onions. Peel and core the apple and finely dice it.

  2. Heat the oil and cook the onions for 25 minutes or so or until browned and soft.

  3. Add the apple and the stock and simmer until the apple has broken down. Mash with a potato masher to help thicken the gravy.

  4. Season with salt and pepper and simmer until thickened.

You could also make this gravy with a pear instead of the apple to serve with pork or duck. Just switch the stock you use to match the meat you're serving the gravy with. This recipe serves 4.
