Easy Onion Gravy recipe

This simple onion gravy, also known as Sauce Robert is a lovely onion gravy that is simple to prepare and even easier to eat. Serve it over cooked pork or even vegetable burgers.

  • 1 onion
  • 1 tbsp. white wine vinegar
  • Boiling water + 1 pork stock cube, or pork stock
  • 1/8th tsp. English mustard powder
  • 1 tbsp. oil

  1. Finely chop the onion. Heat the oil in a frying pan and add the onion. Cook the onion down until soft and sweet, around 10-15 minutes.

  2. Cover the onion with pork stock or water with a pork stock cube until just covered. Simmer for thirty minutes or until almost all of the water has gone.

  3. Add the vinegar and mustard powder, then heat the sauce through before serving.

Use red or white onion in this sauce depending on what you have in. This recipe serves 2.
